Hey everyone, welcome to today’s Feel Better Letter.
This is Matt.
Today I want to talk about the balance of evolving or working on oneself.
Sometimes when we notice something in our life that we don’t like—whether it’s physical, mental, emotional, or even environmental—we want to change. We want to transform. We want to evolve.
A lot of the work, I believe, of evolving is about aligning your consciousness to match the person or situation you desire.
So, when you’re stuck in fear, for instance, it’s about evolving your consciousness to a place where you can live in trust. That’s really what the path to recovery from anxiety is about—it’s doing what you need to do, whether that’s releasing emotion, changing beliefs, removing compulsions, or recontextualizing your experiences. All of this helps you evolve to a point where you can live comfortably from a place of trust in life.
But when we talk about evolving and living from trust, one of the things that can happen is that we can become addicted to improving ourselves—always striving for the next level.
There’s a balancing act when it comes to working on yourself. It involves learning to embrace where you are without resisting it, and doing what needs to be done at that stage—while also looking forward and continuing to grow.
If you’re too focused on getting to a destination or some pinnacle point you believe exists, you’ll miss the entire journey of transformation. You won’t celebrate your wins or acknowledge yourself, because you’ll always feel like you need to be better, do more, or achieve more.
In our group this week, we talked about this idea of balance—learning to improve so you don’t stay stagnant, but not being so focused on “getting somewhere” that you forget to celebrate and embrace the progress you’re making along the way.
It’s like starting at the bottom tier of a company and aiming to become the CEO. You move up from entry level to management, to vice president, to president, and finally to CEO. But if you can’t find joy until you reach that top position, the truth is you’ll never find it. Because if you believe your happiness only exists at a certain destination, you’ll chase it forever.
Now, I’m not suggesting this is easy—because it’s not. But it’s important to balance awareness of where you are with where you want to go, and to enjoy the steps in between.
That’s something we all have to navigate.
So I wanted to share that message today. It’s simple, but important—to be aware of this balance on your journey. It’s easy to get addicted to self-improvement instead of enjoying who you are right now, imperfections and all.
You can work to evolve yourself and enjoy yourself at the same time. That’s the art of balance.
If you can really embrace that, this journey of transformation can be an incredible experience.
With that, I wish you all a wonderful week.
If you’re interested in working with me and my team, or joining our community in TBC, all you need to do is fill out an application—we’ll review it and get back to you. And if you know someone who would benefit from this, please share it with them.
Wishing you lots of joy this weekend. Much love from me to you—and I’ll talk to you soon.
